About Woodgrain Studio
Woodgrain Studio was started by college friends and collaborative woodworkers: Josh Strayer and Max Polec.
Max and Josh met in 2015 in a public speaking class at Pitt when they were put in a group together and Josh improvised a rousing speech about rocks (true story). They started hanging out outside of the classroom and they found that they had a shared interest in woodworking and making things by hand. Over the years their friendship grew stronger. After graduating and having to get real-world jobs Max and Josh ended up living on different sides of the country but their obsession and conversations about woodworking never diminished. The two of them said what all mid-20s guys say to each other: we should go into business together. But in 2020, when Max and Josh finally lived in the same city again, they recalled their numerous woodworking banters and decided to go for it. Thus, Woodgrain Studio was born, where Max and Josh collaborate on small-batch wood products and custom pieces. Cheers!
